Good Fit:
- Road bikes using 3-bolt SPD-SL cleat systems
- Riders transitioning into clipless road pedals
- Compatible with Shimano SPD-SL cleats and equivalents
- Standard adult cranksets with 9/16" pedal threads
Not A Fit:
- SPD (2-bolt) mountain bike shoes or cleats
- Flat pedal riders without clipless-compatible shoes
- Kids bikes or bikes with 1/2" pedal threads
This pedal uses the SPD-SL (3-bolt) standard, which is different from SPD (2-bolt) systems commonly found on mountain and gravel setups.
Service / Ownership Context
Tension is adjustable to help new riders clip in and out more easily. Start with lower tension if you're new to clipless pedals. Cleats are wear items and will need periodic replacement depending on walking and use.
Fit & Use Signals
- Best for road cycling and fitness riding
- Good entry point into clipless pedal systems
- Ideal for riders upgrading from flat pedals
- Comparable to Shimano PD-R540 in function and feel
